A view from Jeanneb

On the road.

Heading north from Whistler under perfect blue skies this morning.

We stopped at Green Lake which perfectly matches it's name with glacial waters and a great view of Whistler mountain. This is a bigger lake than yesterday's, Alta, glad we didn't walk around this one. It is the one where sea or float planes land from Vancouver.

A little further on we had a short walk, 3K, along the Green River ( same colour) to Nairn Falls along a very dusty path through the woods. Everywhere seems very dry.

Heading into the mountains on the BC Coast Cariboo route the views were great. Wooded ravines and mountains and the occasional snow topped peak or glacier as we expected. I liked the trees here as the dark pines are mixed with shimmering silvery Aspen which in places are starting to turn yellow.
Here we are just starting to descend down to Lillooet which describes itself as 'Guaranteed Rugged'!

It certainly was and with it a complete and, for us, unexpected change of country.
Everywhere was suddenly very arid except areas that were being heavily irrigated for grass and crops. We even saw a 'Ghost Town'. (Part of the Cariboo area was Gold Rush country)
Some of this area was a First Nations reserve. I can't give you the name as the language seems both un-pronounceable and impossible to spell. We have been to the First Peoples language exhibition in Victoria and the words seem to contain crazy combinations of consonants including x's and the number 7!

This continued all the way to Kamloops where the farming turned mainly to horse ranches. We saw some Big Horned sheep here where there were road side warnings about them. Also one of the longest goods trains we've ever seen. Glad we weren't waiting at the crossing - some people were!

Heading off this main route into the mountains again we saw some Mule Deer at the side of the road, first wildlife for a while.
Back into the trees and green we are overnighting at another ski resort to break, our journey to Jasper. This one is for the Kamloops area. Nothing like as busy as Whistler.

Chilly up here but a lovely sunny day again with no sign of snow - yet!
