Wind Blown

Weird day. I woke with the alarm as usual, closed my eyes for what seemed like a second and got up. Somehow it was 40 minutes later.

I think this has something to do with smoking. They* say that a cigarette shortens your life by 7 minutes. And I used to be a smoker. One of those glamorous, cool smokers and not one that just smelled of stale smoke all the time. Obviously. I say "obviously" but I really mean "obviously not" but the "not" is silent.

I'd always assumed they meant off the end of your life. Maybe they aren't, maybe they get taken out of the middle and this morning I lost 5 cigarettes worth of my life. Cigarettes I may have smoked in 1985 come back to haunt me. Could explain nights where I feel as if I haven't slept at all.

*The apocryphal "they" - no idea who "they" are.
