Still on the wing...

We've had the most glorious weather so far this September - warm and still with plenty of sunshine. Having spent the first part of the morning taxiing Chris to Buglife, where he's started volunteering, and then Alex to Eye Green, where he was to spend a day raking cut grass with the Wildlife Trust Midweek team, I had a pleasant walk round Dogsthorpe Star Pit with Rosie. The sunshine meant that the air was filled with dragonflies, mostly migrant hawkers and common darters, with the occasional brown hawker. All these species will be on the wing pretty much until the first frosts.

Then it was home to a few hours of report writing, before returning to Dogsthorpe Star Pit with Ben and Alex for an hour of blackberrying. We managed to pick around 5lb, which should be enough for a gallon of blackberry port. I've just sent off for the wine yeast!
