St Giles Fair, Oxford

Every year the large open street of St Giles in Oxford is taken over for two days by the St Giles Fair. It is a totally mad spectacle - the old Bath Stone college buildings cheek by jowl with neon and noise. The huge and impossibly risky-looking rides are positioned hair-raisingly close to the buildings and trees. This one winched the unfortunately paying passengers up way above college roof level and then spun them around at high speed. Why?
