Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red

We took our niece and her boyfriend into London and spent the day being tourists.

While my wife took them on an open top tourist bus, I nipped over to the Tower of London to photograph the remarkable installation called Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red. This work will consist of 888,246 ceramic poppies, each one representing a British military fatality during the First World War. They are being installed in the moat of the Tower over a period of time, with the last being installed on the 11th November (Armistice Day). The poppies, each one individually hand made, create an amazing carpet of red, apparently flowing out from the tower.

During the rest of the day we squeezed in a visit to the Science Museum, Harrods and M&M World. Just what every teenager wants!
