The Arches of Triumph!

It's actually called the Acueducto del Aquila - the eagle's aqueduct! Four storeys of arches built in the Roman style but in the 19th century to carry water to the local sugar processing factory. The factory has long been closed but the aqueduct is still used to carry a water pipe which irrigates local fruit farms.

Our triumph today was to trek down from the road and stand underneath the arches (yes, we sang the song!) from where I took lots of upward shots to get an overpowering sense of height. However, the full grandeur of the construction is better seen from a distance, so I've uploaded this one.

On the way back for a cafe and cognac, the songs were Singing in the Rain and Pennies from Heaven. Great being on holiday!
