Slept like a log this morning - couldn't believe what time I woke up at! Haven't done that in a long time.

We were hoping to go for dinner at my auntie Louise's tonight but got a phone call from her partner John to say she was in hospital in Orange! Poor auntie lou! It's nothing too serious and she was out by this evening but still, what a nightmare! I hope she's feeling better really soon.

Pierre and I went to the "journée patrimoine des Pilles" exhibition in the church after lunch. Marylène Delmarre, one of the women on the conseil municipal, had set up various stands showing old postcards of Les Pilles. Lovely to see them all. She did a great job.

On our way back to the house we saw our neighbours, Georges and Carole, out the front of their house with a beagle with a bell around its neck. This time of year is bonkers for finding stray hunting dogs. They get away from their pack (half the time by choice, I reckon) and you see them wandering the countryside half starved and dying of thirst. Normally their collar has a phone number on and you just call their owner so they can come and pick the dog up. I've done it a couple of times before and reluctantly handed the dog over.

Our neighbours have a very boisterous male dog and were worried that it would overpower and scare the wee female beagle, so we said we'd take her in. They'd given her food and water and they left a message on the owner's voicemail to say the dog was safely in Les Pilles.

She came in to our house and we put a sheet over one of our chairs so she could get up for a wee sleep. Coquine, our cocker spaniel, was very gracious and kind towards the new arrival.

It's now midnight and with no sign of the owner, wee lady is still fast asleep in our living room <3 <3 <3
