But, then again . . . . .

The Curse of the Cuikie Kids.

The visit into Penicuik today was for some nefarious purpose (I forget exactly what - as I'm actually posting this entry on Sunday the 21st) revealed this year's contribution to the arts trail by the combined efforts of Jan Miller, Gina Leslie and the Kids' Pulp Fiction Group. Last year they did "The Bash Street Kids" from the Beano, this time it's Joanna Rowling of Harry Potter fame. The papier-mâché sculpture consists of a likeness (approximately) of the Rowling holding a book (not part of the official Harry Potter set) and sitting next to a figure of the lad himself. It sits in the window of yet another charity shop.

Some forty years ago I read that the chain of shops with the greatest number of U.K. branches was Oxfam. There are now as many charity shops in this pedestrian precinct as there are all other types of shop put together.
