In the Whare Wahine

Today was the Tapu Te Ranga Harvest Festival and an open day on the Marae. I took Morven (my nine year old) and her friend on a tour of the Marae. In this shot we're standing in the Whare Wahine (the woman's house). You can see the girls' sun hats in the foreground and in the background Pare Stewart (the daughter of Bruce, the Marae's founder) talking about the Maori gods. The painting on the rear wall was commissioned from the Maori artist Robyn Kahukiwa

Pare is so immersed in her talk here that she's almost dancing it ;-)
