Above And Beyond...

Datca Market Day

After breakfast, the six of us queued outside the hotel to catch the bus for the 12 mile journey into Datca town, to have a look around and visit the Saturday market. The bus was a 16 seater and after pushing back the Germans who were trying to queue jump it ended up with about 30 people packed like sardines. Some were left behind.

Datca is mostly untouched by tourism. Not many speak English and most of the smaller shops and stalls will only take Turkish lira. I was impressed with the town, and market, which was quite busy. When looking around it started to rain and the covers they put over the stalls kept rain at bay. However, one cover burst and soaked a poor man; sort of an unexpected ice bucket challenge. It made those who saw it laugh.

After a coffee, we went into a boutique and were there for about two hours whilst the wife had a manicure and shellac nail jobs done. It was quite interesting watching the numerous customers having their nails and hair done. One was a young man wearing a beany hat having a foot pedicure.

We caught the 3pm bus back. Again, the Germans queue jumped, even pushing some local elderly Turkish women out of the way. My diminutive wife physically pushed this burly German man who started shouting at her. She got on, and luckily we avoided another war. Again it was sardines, and the wife sat on my lap so an elderly lady could sit. She was grateful.

On getting back to the hotel it was pouring down, and after a quick snack, it was back to our lovely room to watch satellite tv and sort out my photo's. It thundered last night but the forecast is good for our last day tomorrow.

The blip photo is a stall at Datca Saturday market where I loved the colours of the fruit and veg with the line of elderly Turkish men just watching the people shopping.
