Corvus

Corvus, Raven Crag - 3star Classic Rock Route.
The forecast was for sun - but Corvus has a certain reputation - a true mountaineering route that's best done in big boots in any weather in a mountaineering style. They always say "any weather" - but I've done this route probably a dozen times now & am coming to the conclusion that what they actually mean is "done in the rain"  - I don't think I've ever felt the sun on me on this route.
Truly it doesn't matter - its quite possibly the best route of its relatively easy grade in the country - and Matt had never done it.
We walked into the valley along Combe Gill in mixed weather - but by the time we'd gotten to the crag we were into the goretex - 8 pitches & 3 hours later - including the famous hand traverse - we were at the top - I'd done all the leading as Matt hadn't fancied fighting the wet conditions - but it had been good - back in guiding mode - minimal protection, moving fast - setting the line for a client - skills that can't be practised too much. We packed and scrambled to the top of Thornythwaite - and as we climbed out onto the summit the sun finally shone in our faces - and the hills came alive with colour.
