Cherub Birdbath, Geilston Garden

Our first visit to this lovely garden. Divided into four sections, the Walled Garden, Kitchen Garden, The Avenue and the Woodland Walk beside the Burn.

This bronze Cherub is in the Walled Garden. Bought from Fortnum and Masons by the father of Miss Henry, the last private owner of the property. She was a keen amateur gardener, who developed the eighteenth century designed landscape. It is now looked after by The National Trust for Scotland.

I like the blurred effect of the colourful border, using my favourite f/1.4. 19C on this late September afternoon. We almost had the place to ourselves, and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

We bought two artichokes, grown in the garden. Never cooked one before, steamed it for 25 mins, but it wasn't fit for eating. I'll boil the other one, and hope for success with that.
