Girl with a Pearl Earring

The set subject this month for camera club is "Classics Remastered", we were given four classic paintings of which we could choose one to recreate with a camera.

I knew friends were arriving to stay in their holiday home and their daughter Anja would be the perfect model for me to recreate "The Girl with the Pearl Earring", by Vermeer.

Lots of fun this afternoon as we dressed her up with wraps of material, scarves, and a pillow case and put her in front of a black piece of fabric I had hung on the wall. We opened the original image on the iPad and then set to getting her to get the right expression on her face. I made an earring up from an old pearl bead, but as Anja doesn't have pierced ears, her Mum wore it, I photographed it on her and cut and pasted! So lots of playtime with Photoshop finished with a bit of texture and this is the resulting image.

Sometimes it is little challenges like this that take you out of your comfort zone!
