Spring greens in Autumn?

If it weren't for the tell-tale signs of yellow among the leaves of the big tree and the russet of the dying bracken by the roadside, you might well think that this photo showed springtime on Loch Striven. This afternoon, with no discernible wind and warm sunshine, it actually felt like midsummer, but I noticed that the trees lacked the tired heavy green of summer and seemed to have regained the freshness of youth.

It was a glorious afternoon, all the more poignant because of the weather forecast for the end of the week. What a pity we couldn't just pass peaceably into autumn and winter without the usual drama of ... weather.
