Dappled

Yesterday afternoon we caught a bus from Athens across the bridge at Chalkida to the mountainous, forested island of Evvia. Up and up we wound then down and down the other side to the sea.

After driving through kilometres of bleak nowhere along the coast we reached a port so new that the only building on the vast slabs of new concrete was a tiny wooden hut for selling tickets during the hour before the ferry leaves. So much for my idea of getting a coffee as we waited.

Two hours on the ferry in moonlight sparkling off the waves and finally we arrived at a necklace of lights and were met by my sister at Loutraki harbour on Skopelos Island.

Where today we have done almost nothing.
