Foggy Weather

Southern California is experiencing another heatwave (just like the last time we were here) which has generated some interesting weather phenomena. This morning for example we awoke to fog covering the downtown (top photo). Visibility was less than a couple of blocks as I rode the bus to play volleyball. The fog was soon gone, burned off by the heat of the day, but returned again early this evening (bottom photo) once the sun had set. On other trips to Long Beach, we have experienced the marine layer for which this area is famous, but this is the first time we have seen real fog such as this. These two photos were shot from our balcony a little more than 12 hours apart, but were separated by a full day of beautiful sunshine.
