Last of the summer butterflies

This has been a good summer for butterflies and we have had lots in our garden thanks to certain plants that attract them like magnets.

One of the most frequently seen was this Small Tortoiseshell (pictured) so it came as a suprirse when I googled it to discover this species is in decline. A number of theories have been put forward and the one theory is that it is most likely due to a parasitic fly, a result of global warming.

This one is sharing the sebum plant with numerous bees and another half dozen Small Tortoiseshells.
So far the decline in this species has not reached Scotland.

Correction: Ceridwen pointed out this is a Red Admiral not a Small Tortoiseshell.
