A Touch of Colour

So, it's back to square one : snow, horizontal and wet, a cutting east wind, slushy pavements and miserable looking pedestrians bent double against the freezing onslaught.
It was a cold walk about for a blip, fingers so frozen and numb that they could hardly operate the shutter button and the snowflakes threatening the camera lens.
Oh dear, will this winter never end?

Perhaps some uncharacteristic baking might provide some eating comfort later on.
When we were in Bahariya oasis last week, we bought a kilo of dates from a roadside vendor, only to discover when we got home that they were so hard that they could only be made edible with judicious soaking and heating. Now I can use them to make several date and walnut loaves and benefit from them in a rather carbohydratey way.

A bright spot on today's horizon is the Edinburgh not-in-the-mosque meeting tonight in a local cafe. That is as long as I don't succumb to hypothermia in our cold castle before then.

I have put some photos on Flickr if anyone is interested in seeing our Egyptian odyssey
