History Lesson

I am standing in the doorway of Marble Hall, the main entrance area of Gould Hall, that opened 100 years ago as the brand new premises of the American College for Girls, previously located in Uskadar and sister school to Robert College, Istanbul, founded 1863. (They amalgamated in 1971, taking over the Girls School premises whilst the nearby boys school buildings became the Bosphorus University).

As a result of considerable building work in Gould Hall in recent months (the library on the second floor is being reinvented), Marble Hall also underwent a facelift to look much as it must have done a hundred years ago. I walk through this space daily and decided today to (try to) take a photo of Marble Hall that feels as if it might have been taken back in 1914. Just a bit of fun.

BTW, The couches, previously part of the furniture housed in the original faculty parlour have an interesting history, having belonged to Caroline Borden, of Boston Mass., - founding member of the girls school and close relative of the infamous Lizzie)
