Swans amidst the reflections

Saturday
Roger found us a nice route for an afternoon bike ride, east of Montereau, near the River Seine. The roads were very quiet and the route was relatively flat. The Seine meanders a lot through this stretch and is surrounded by many stretches of water either side, so there was quite a lot of bird life, sometimes just heard rather than seen. This stretch of water was particularly attractive, with the reflections and the large number of swans - at least twenty to twenty five. When we got home, there was just time for a quick and early dinner, before going into Fontainebleau to see Verdi's Macbeth - live in HD from the Metropolitan Opera, at the Ermitage cinema. They have been doing these live broadcasts for 8 or 9 years now, and they go to 68 countries, ranging from Tromso in Norway to southernmost Argentina. The wonders and the joys of modern technology! I hadn't heard the opera before, but the music was wonderful and the performance very powerful, so it was a great night out.
