The Jam Factory

Despite the overcast skies and drizzle, I went for a walk this afternoon to the outskirts of Tiptree where the Wilkin & Sons factory has been making jams and preserves for nearly 130 years. It has had a Royal Warrant since 1911 and the Queen visited in 2010. It's very popular with visitors, and often has coachloads of people arriving to look around the little museum, enjoy the tea shop and gift shop, and look at the vintage farm equipment outside the old factory buildings. The business continues to grow and Wilkin & Sons' produce is now sold in sixty overseas markets. There are plans to build a new state-of-the-art factory a little further out from the village in order to continue developing in the future. My blipfoto is the original factory entrance gate on the main road out of Tiptree.

Dad has spent the day quietly at home today. He's no better, and has had a difficult day with his breathing and back pain. Wednesday can't come soon enough, when hopefully the hospital procedure will bring him some relief.
