Jane; one of the few

This is one of our neighbours, Jane. She is an amazing person; funny, witty and a big flirt; “well dear, you’ve either got it, or you haven’t .,..”

Jane was a Land Army Girl in the Second World War and is one of the few left to tell the stories of life at that time. And she can tell some good stories. She fell in love with a New Zealand airman “I’ve always had a thing about aircrew…” but sadly he was shot down and did not survive. She still talks of him now, 70-odd years later; shows us photos of what she was wearing when they first met.

When she was not down on the farm she would be singing and playing jazz piano. She's still in demand to play now.

She’s fastidious about her clothes and appearance - won’t come calling without make-up and a perfectly matching outfit. We’re lucky and privileged that she has decided to count us among her friends.

She hates having her photo taken, but agrees to my request for one. I show her the image in preview; “hmm - that’s quite good …”
