Early Season Airport

I was struck today, on my first of what I expect will be many trips to our airport, as I waited for our friend to arrive how different the activity level is this time of year. During the height of tourist season, the place is jammed with friends, salespeople, and tour guides. Right now, especially with a flight arriving from Mexico City, the place is almost empty. Hopefully that will not be the case for long as the shop, restaurant, and hotel owners need a steady stream of visitors in order to ensure a successful season. Certainly stories of Ebola and violence will not help the cause, but our city seems to be well protected by the Marines (who have a significant base in town and are undergoing a major construction project on the road to our apartment) and untouched by the unrest in other parts of the country (despite the protest march the other day). That will hopefully remain the case and the airport will soon be full of travelers.
