We all had a good laugh

Tonight we celebrated Heather's 70th birthday (she's 2nd from left, her sons Alex and Lawrence on right).
She wanted a bush dance and she got one!
As Cymbeline says - we all had a good laugh - it was a great night.
See Cymbeline's blip for a great shot of Heather and the croquembouche birthday 'cake' her son Alex made - a masterpiece, in everyone's opinion!

For those who like doggerel, here's the Birthday Poem:

'Twas in the Spring of '83 we first encountered Heather.
The Festival Revue (mais oui!) had thrown us all together.
She frolicked in the chorus then — as yet with hidden talents
(Not counting roller skating, when she almost lost her balance).

A stenographic whiz was she and probably is still,
And when it came to carpentry, she really knew the drill.
She'd tried her hand at being Swiss, her cooking was exotic,
Her Küchen and her quiche were bliss — if not macrobiotic.

At knitting and at sewing she could beat the best we've had,
When she'd had her Singer going she was very nicely clad.
A life of fame upon the stage might well have been predicted,
'Till fate stepped in and turned the page and marriage was inflicted.

Embarked upon a new career as scholar/teacher/mother,
She formed a team — three musketeers — with Alex and his brother.
Her boys grew up to both be quite accomplished — and good looking —
And each of them a shining light in maths, or pastry cooking.

So time doth pass and now her muse (not counting twelve committees)
Is speaking French and wrestling 'roos and such like nitty-gritties.
Some say she walks the 'heath at night, rescuing stranded kittens.
Some say a novel she doth write — if so, she's kept it hidden!

For languages, for letters and for esoteric spelling,
You'd scarcely do much better — and she's also good at selling:
Raffle tickets, tasty snacks, ice to Eskimos,
Shoes and ships and sealing wax and horticultural shows.

And that's not all, there's plenty more — her brain is always working
On projects, plots and plans galore — there's always something lurking.
But hist! She has a secret vice — yes! Shall I tell it now...?
Nude Camping - and she's done it twice! The naughty little Frau!

So many stories still that might quite easily fill a tome,
But those must wait until we write the 80th birthday pome.
So using rhyming words like feather, tether and bellwether,
We'll terminate this blether to say "Happy Birthday Heather!"
