Wharfe Weir

10yo wanted to test the aeronautical capacity of his new scooter, so we headed up to Wharfe Meadows in Otley where the skate/scoot ramps are usually fairly quiet. We arrived in the middle of a shower which added an element of slip/skid risk, so we soon abandoned the ramps and just explored the rest of the park.

The adjacent Wharfe was full, fast and lively and a strong wind was adding to the drama at the weir. A few brave gulls were keeping to the water on the upstream side of the weir, presumably paddling furiously underneath.

This image captures the sweep of the weir across to the site of the former Garnett's Paper Mill, with just the mill owner's house and and a small section of the mill remaining.
