Abandoned pony?

We had a surprise at the nature reserve over the weekend. We were checking fencing before moving the Dexter cattle into the central meadow plots, when this pony was discovered. The main route to this area has locked gates across the track, so the only way in would be through the woods, but even then the gate to this field would have to be opened. The pony is not in great condition, but seems to be grazing happily. None of our neighbours can throw any light on this sudden appearance. We are not sure whether it has been abandoned or left by travellers for a while for some free grazing.

After discussions with the police and RSPCA, we are following the correct procedure by posting 'Abandonment Notices' at all the entrances. These invite the legal owner to contact us and give notice that the pony must be removed within 14 days. After this time period we will be free to re-home or sell it, but to be honest, we could do without the extra hassle of doing all this. It's a shame my lawn at home is a bit too small!
