Waterside Culture

I was at this theatre a couple of nights ago for the opening night of ‘A Perfect Murder’ – a comedy murder mystery based on a novel by Peter James. It was entertaining with an unexpected and very clever ending. I decided I would pop back this evening for my ‘culture’ blip to catch the crowds flocking in for the performance, capturing the movement artistically of course. Well, I think the cast must have been performing to an almost empty house as I could never seem to catch more than three or four people ‘flocking’ in at any one time!

So, on to Plan B …… the statue of Ronnie Barker.

When the theatre was built a few years ago, Aylesbury Vale District Council commissioned a bronze statue of the comedy legend Ronnie Barker as part of its Waterside development project. Ronnie Barker made his professional debut on 15 November 1948, at the old County Theatre in Aylesbury's Market Square. and is seen here 'sitting' on a stone bench looking up at the new Waterside Theatre as if recalling the days when he began his career in Aylesbury.

Dictionary definitions the of ‘culture’, amongst other options, include the ideas, customs and acts of a particular society or a developed understanding of the arts. If a theatre is to succeed it must meet the diverse cultural interests of its ‘population’; I think Waterside has done this as there is a huge variety of performances and justifies its inclusion for the Culture blip!
