Slimbridge

This was our first visit to the wetlands wildfowl centre at Slimbridge. I don't think either of us realised how many captive birds there are here. The main area is really a zoo. Although it was heaving with schoolkids it was useful and interesting going on a guided tour. We were impressed by the Common Cranes and were very surprised to see them again in the wild when we went to the hides after lunch.

At least we think this is a pair of Cranes. No doubt some birding blipper will put me right if I'm mistaken. What surprised me is that they are listed as uncommon sightings in the UK on the web. However I believe there is a breeding programme in the Severn area
