Then there was glass!!

This is the UK headquarters the famous Pilkington Glass Company which was founded in 1826 and based in St Helens, Lancashire.

The distinctive blue-glass head office tower-block, used as the firm's world HQ, and completed in 1964, still dominates the town's skyline.

When built, 50 years ago , it was the epitome of high tech and designed to showcase the company's excellence in producing probably the best glass in the world.

Sadly this is all behind us now and the building (although protected) is a shadow of its former self. In addition to some remaining Pilkington operations which still use the building it is now the HQ of St Helens & Knowsley Health Informatics, the NHS client I was visiting today - thus the picture!

The St Helens and Knowsley Health Informatics Service (HIS) is a unique shared service within the NHS built on the quality of specialist in-house staff, industry standard ICT, infrastructure, secure information systems and an overarching culture of delivery.
