Ted Outside of the Kiln!

These are the remains of one of the two lime kilns which are in Burnley. They were built by the Leeds Liverpool canal company between 1794 and 1801 to produce lime at a reasonable cost for use in mortar and the clay lining to the canal bottom. Limestone coal and some timber would have been loaded into firing chambers above the resulting quicklime raked out and seperated from the ashes under the arches.

We have been Christmas shopping today.

Ted is looking really small in this blip.
