A Hard Night’s Work

This morning’s fog revealed the webs around the garden. Thanks to the sparrows there are not a lot. I photographed all that I found. It was only after I’d looked at this one enlarged on my computer screen that I saw the young native forest orb web spider resting after building her magnificent web. She is straddling the two dead stalks lower right. You may need to go large to see her. Her abdomen is pale, with a dark stripe, and half her legs are backlit.

Dead stalks in the garden are not pretty, but they provide valuable support for webs like the two in this photo.
