Veteran

As with many other places across the world, there was a local ceremony of remembrance here for those who served and died, and were injured in past wars. This year, on the 100th anniversary of commencement of WW1, there was an especially large gathering. My eye was caught by this gentleman, who laid a wreath (Allan Duncan Mackinnon) a veteran of WW2, with a chestful of medals for gallantry. It is worth recording that, per capita of population, Lewis had more participants serving in WW1 than any other area of the UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand - and correspondingly higher losses - one out of every six in service died. It was a poignant ceremony.
