Duke of Wellington

Having tried out the Bull yesterday, today was the turn of the Duke of Wellington. A different kind of pub, no pretensions of a restaurant at the Duke, just a typical pub menu. Along the road at the Waggon and Horses I think it is the same. Twyford is not quite as upmarket as Wargrave perhaps, though there were more people in the Duke today than we saw in the Bull yesterday.

The picture shows the main street in Twyford, Bath Road. This used to be a main road to London, fortunately the main road now bypasses the village. Particularly fortunate as the cross road in the centre of the village is not wide enough for vehicles to pass side by side. This may have been the road between London and the west, it would now be a major bottleneck.

The buildings here are probably quite old, though not amongst the oldest in the village. The very oldest is behind me as I took this photograph, I have featured it before so I should look in a different direction on this occasion.
