Le Tanjia

We had a lazy morning at our riad Dar Beija and then we got a taxi to the Marrakech Piazza in the Gueliz area of the city. Gueliz is the suburb laid out by the French in the 1920s. It is a world apart from the medina, with its street cafes and designer boutiques. We made our way along the Avenue Mohamed V to have a light lunch at El Fassia. This restaurant is run by a woman's cooperative and it specialises in Moroccan cuisine. We had an excellent lunch and met a lovely couple from California and three sisters from the south of France. We spent the rest of the afternoon doing some shopping without being hassled.

Tonight is our last night so we decided to return to the brasserie, Le Tanjia which is just around the corner from where we are staying. I love the colonial style, with its dark wood tables and the Moroccan lanterns and palms. Tonight we experienced the amazing belly dancers. This is a view from our balcony seat looking across the restaurant to where a waiter is preparing the tables and lighting the candles.
