Aftermath

Angie had to disappear to Ottobeuren for a few hours in the morning, so I took the dogs for a walk, going out the back entrance for the first time since Storm Gonzalo.

Had to detour through heavy brambles to get to the other side, the path totally blocked by the fallen trees. In the upper photo one can see one of our silage bales in the garden. Angie happened to meet the forester in Ottobeuren today. He is aware of the problem and wants to clear all the tall trees close to the house but is waiting for the ground to freeze so as to try and minimalise the damage to the ground.

One can see in the bottom photo what it means when one says spruce trees have shallow roots. PurbeckDave gave me some useful info on spruces recently saying the name comes from the word Prussia.

Had to dismantle the sides of the trailer to get it in the shed. All the joints were rusted and had to flex off all the pins holding them together. Turning in to a major job but eventually trailer under cover now and probably will remain untouched until summer 2015!
