Stuck

This is the first piece of my current knitting project, a blackberry-stitch tea cosy. The pattern says to pull the yarn through the loops at the top and tie it off. But I don't know how to tie it off because if I just tie a knot in the yarn, it would have to be huge to stop it going back through all the stitches.

Anyone got any ideas?
