This rather shy pony is one of a herd who are currently grazing an area of species-rich grassland at Castor Hanglands National Nature Reserve. They are all hardy stock, who help to keep the sward short and the scrub at bay, ensuring the more delicate wild flowers continue to thrive.

I had an excellent walk round the site this morning with our local botany group - though we spent more time looking at fungi than flora. Having finished a large report yesterday, it was good to get out into the fresh air and chat with some friends I hadn't seen for a while.
