Whizzed down to Tunbridge Wells this morning to visit a trophy maker. The Southern Group of Motoring Writers, of which I am current chairman, stages a charity Karting Grand Prix to entertain our highly competitive chums from motor industry PR departments. As we have now established this as an annual event, we are creating a permanent trophy that the teams can compete for the honour of winning.

The reigning champions from the inaugural event are Fiat, who will briefly hold the trophy before it is up for grabs again at the next event in February.

The trophy shop was crammed with all manner of amazing trophies made of glass, brass, wood, silver and glitzy plastic. There were potential blips in every direction, but I couldn't resist this box of brass print forms used in the engraving machine.

We are having a unique trophy made, which will doubtless be the subject of a future blip.
