Tarawera Times

Highly Commended

Owen is a permanent resident at Lake Tarawera and last year he gathered together a group of locals and organised with the council to turn a piece of waste ground near the lake into a Community Garden. Not only is it providing great produce, but it is also a very social meeting place, which can't be a bad thing!
One of our other residents decided to nominate him for the Community Gardener of the Year in the national Gardener Magazine, and although he didn't win, he was mentioned with a Highly Commended.
There is an article coming out in the next local newsletter so I was asked to take a photo of Owen in the garden. It is still just getting established with raised beds being built, compost bins and a watering system, but already it is looking great.

Well done Owen for starting this all off.
