Canal Contrasts

Cycling along the Glasgow spur of the Forth and Clyde Canal I was struck by the contrast between the streamlined new-builds with canal-side locations and some really crumbling buildings still standing in Maryhill. The new house on the right with its solar panels, glass porch and little rooftop balcony is such a stark contrast to the old buildings that sit virtually across the water (at right angles to the canal) on a bend on this stretch.

I like the colours and shapes of the derelict structures, but I think relaxing with a glass of wine of a summer's evening, the home owners on the balcony may not feel so well disposed towards Maryhill's remaining pockets of dereliction. The ducks, of course don't care, and have no inkling how cute they look! Best viewed in large.
