A river runs through it

More boisterous in large.
See yesterday's backblip for events leading up to this scene. Sorry about the quality of the photo, but conditions were not ideal, as you can see :)

This is the same place I blipped back in September -- the rock you can just see on the left here is the one the chaps are not jumping off due to spousal veto. I didn't take this photo till about 1 pm, by which time there had been no rain for several hours, so the river must have been higher than this during the night -- but not over the top of the bridge, there was a good metre clear under the arch (which is about 8 metres above the riverbed).

We went to inspect our garden -- the river had been and gone, so it didn't look quite as bad as last year and the baby broad bean plants were still where they were supposed to be -- unlike the garden furniture.

Anyway, I'm not complaining -- others have had it far worse than we have. And at least we don't get many power cuts these days (a lot of overhead power cables were replaced with underground ones after the massive flooding in 1999, greatly reducing the number of downed cables). Other than going out to look at the river, we haven't ventured far today. And after aperos with the mayor we are plotting a campaign ... watch this space.
