Support IMPACT this #GivingTuesday

This #GivingTuesday why not show your support by purchasing an IMPACT Gift Token.

For example, one of our tokens to equip and train a health worker in a developing country would make a huge difference to women like Saleha in Bangladesh.

Saleha lives with her husband and two-year old daughter. She found out she was pregnant at 11 weeks.

At 25 weeks Saleha found that her blood pressure was little bit too high, she was seen by our Doctor who prescribed medication and an IMPACT trained birth assistant took closer care of her.

At 34 weeks, Saleha lost consciousness but luckily the TBA was there and called for IMPACT’s ambulance to take her the 7km to our hospital. Saleha was suffering with pre-eclampsia (a life-threatening condition only developed in pregnancy). In the 20 minutes it took the ambulance to reach our hospital, the operating theatre had been prepared in readiness for a Caesarean section operation; the only way to save the lives of both Saleha and her baby. A baby boy was safely delivered and both mother and child stayed at our hospital to be cared for until they could return home.

IMPACT’s trained TBA rapidly diagnosed the problem and took swift action to get Saleha to hospital; it is hard to think what might have happened otherwise.

The untrained TBAs working in the community have little to no understanding of complications such as pre-eclampsia and in emergency situations such as this; our training course can literally be life-saving.

Saleha’s husband gratefully told us, “If there was no Johora [the trained birth assistant] or ambulance I would not get back my beloved wife and the new baby.”
