Hurricane!

Don't worry, this isn't morbid.

As Mum died in Telford Hospital I had to travel there to register the death. We passed this hurricane on a trailer and did quite a long detour to get back to the lay-by to have a better look. It was a life size model, partly in pieces but very impressive.

The registrar was a very pleasant and humorous man so that went well.

I'd been in touch with the undertaker the night before. He was a friend of my mother's and did all the funerals in the area of South West Shropshire where we come from. He and Mum had black humour banter usually starting with him saying "I've got my tape measure in my pocket if you're nearly ready....."

He said he's meet us part way back to collect the paperwork that we picked up from the registrar. To save us a few miles he suggested the car park of a chip shop. We arrived at the chippie / diner on the roadside and he turned up in his car. We expected to just hand him the form but no, he led us into the chippie where we sat amongt the salt and vinegar filling forms and discussing the funeral. Mum had put a photo of him with an old friend in her "Funeral File" so he's borrowed that to copy. The way that he spoke to the chippie owners and locals we think that it is annexe to his premises. Such an amusing man and a great character. This could only happen in the country!!

We had fish and chips as the smell made us feel hungry - they were very good too.

A sombre day turned into an amusing one - Mum would have approved!
