The fabled Chimaera.....

........ a fire breathing hybrid monster was supposed to have roamed these woods in Lycia in Asia Minor. It is the modern South coast of Turkey, near the small villages of Cirali & Olympos in Antalya Province.

It is here that flames emerge from the ground, believed to have started when Bellerophon killed the Chimarea by pouring molten lead into its mouth. Remains of the Greek temple of Hephaistos, blacksmith to the Gods, are seen in the lower edge of the image.
