And today's December challenge word is Hands.

We are already fed up that our so-called "high speed internet" has got slower and slower and is now down to dialup speeds. We are still waiting for an engineer to turn up and do something about it. But now insult has been added to injury as the Conseil Général (equivalent of a county council) has decided to invest in fibre optic connections for a select few communes. Yet again we have been left out (it took six years for us to get ADSL, long after all the surrounding communes had it). According to the plan, we can have fibre in ... 2030. Ridiculous.

So we have decided to set up a collective to start giving the politicians some grief. When S drew a map of the 52 communes in our grouping and coloured in the 23 that will have fibre optic connections next year, it was clear that there was no rhyme or reason to it ... other than copinage (i.e. it's all about who you know). Hard to see how a commune of 48 people should take priority over one with a population of 300.

We had our inaugural meeting this evening. Unfortunately only 14 people turned up :( Still, you have to start somewhere, and we have a plan. I can't wait to see a local politician, up for re-election next year, trying to give us a plausible explanation of how they chose the lucky few.
