Beetroot chutney

Surprisingly, on this date one year ago, they were making beetroot chutney. It was being made again today, and the kitchen was filled with wonderful smells. I'm looking forward to testing it, but not until Wednesday, as I am fasting for a hospital procedure on Tuesday :-(
When I was wee there seemed to be a lot more people making jams, jellies, chutneys, pickles, wine, cordials, and so on... or is it just my memory?
