Let the Sun Shine

Very cold today with quite a strong cold wind. The sun was shining as I walked along Union Terrace, but there is a cloud coming in at the top right of the photograph which does not bode well for how long the sun may stay around.

The tall spire in the centre of the photograph is part of the Triple Kirks complex and was built by Archibald Simpson in 1844. Whether this spire and the associated churches was ever particularly attractive I have no idea, I would not rate what remains as one of Archibald Simpson's masterpieces.

Work is currently under way to build a seven story office block which will partially enclose the spire. The development was supposed to be ready by the end of 2015. Although the building works encroach onto the road in front of the development it would not look to me as though it will be ready on schedule.

The end result will change the view as seen in this photograph, and the juxtaposition of old and new may not be a happy one.
