Harden Moor - reclamation

Midgeham Cliff End quarry has been operating for sometime and is currently being reclaimed.

I was surprised today to see just how much has been filled in. Back in 2006 there was a planning application to extend the quarry but it was stopped by huge public opposition. The council's Countryside and rights of way service also opposed it.

Thankfully the weight of opposition won, and now depleted it is being refilled. Thankfully the terms of the licence of the quarry was that it couldn't be landfill in the way we all think of with the contents of our dustbins, but it has to be returned to it natural state, and is being refilled with inert building materials which seem to be sorted on site.

It will be interesting to see how it develops.
