decoration?

At this time of year it's easy to see decorations everywhere but this is a particularly nice bit of gilt frippery attached to a door to a block of flats or offices quite near Baker Street station where I was heading after a visit to site to check on some stuff at Regents Park.

I liked the way the gilding is worn and faded. Sometimes people come along and "freshen up" things like this - the Victorians did this to a lot of churches and I don't think it ever works. This has all the marks of it's history
