In The Dark

Not a deliberate Christmasy orangey background but it works for me!

Bringing all the cushions and seats in from the garden Breeze House - a job which should have been done long ago, I found this lovely peacock butterfly hibernating behind the seat back. After carefully dropping the outside canvas covers I shot into the house for my camera. A fortuitous blip subject, I think!

Research has shown that this butterfly produces sonic and ultrasonic sounds when hibernating in it's dark wintering sites when encountered by mice, which flee. A great defensive strategy as flashing the owl shaped 'eyes' would not work in the dark. Clever!
